Norse Heritage

Her name means "goldbranch." This beautiful, beguiling Norse sorceress loves and desires nothing more than gold. When she leaves the realm of the Vanir gods and travels to Asgard, home of the Aesir gods, in search of gold, Gullveig, the powerful Norse seer, talks of nothing else. Worried by her gold-lust and the passions it arouses in them, the Aesir cast her into the fire, not once but three times. Each time she rises from the flame brighter and more beautiful. When she then returns to the Vanir, they vow to avenge her mistreatment, and so begins the fabled war between the worlds.

  • Smoking Policy - All Viking ship interiors, staterooms, and verandas are non-smoking. Each ship has an outdoor smoking area, generally on the sun deck.

  • Special Dietary Needs - Advance Notice Required - Viking will make every effort to accommodate special dietary needs. Every meal has vegetarian options on the menu, and chefs are able to prepare low-salt or gluten-free cuisine. Guests requiring special diets, such as diabetic or low-cholesterol meals, must alert Viking Cruises one month prior to departure and inform the Maitre d
  • Wheelchair Access & Special Needs - Guests must report any disability requiring special attention while on their Viking Cruises itinerary to Viking at the time the reservation is made. All vessels and motorcoaches are equipped to European standards. Most transportation services, including the vessels and motorcoaches, are not equipped with elevators or wheelchair ramps. Viking will make reasonable attempts to accommodate the special needs of disabled travelers, but is not responsible in the event it is unable to do so nor is it responsible for any denial of services by vessel operators, air carriers, hotels, restaurants, or other independent suppliers. Viking cannot provide individual assistance to a vacation participant for walking, dining, getting on and off vessels, motorcoaches and other vehicles, or other personal needs. A qualified and physically able companion must accompany travelers who need such assistance and must assume full responsibility for their well being. River cruising

| Danube river from Budapest to Prague
This was our first river cruise. It was a wonderful cruise, great stops, great people, and well organized. We will definitely be taking another Viking cruise! Highly recommend adding on the Prague extension.

Europe River Cruise

We would have liked to have sailed on the Gullveig all the way to Nuremberg. However, an accident on the Danube prevented the ship from cruising beyond Linz. Viking and the Gullveig did a wonderful job of arranging motor coach transportation for those going on the tours to Gottweig Abbey and Salzsburg, etc., and for then taking those guest to the Egil at Straubing. The staffs of both ships should be commended for making our trip pleasant and enjoyable.

We determined an ocean cruise on a bigger ship and with more activities and meal choices was more suitable to our tastes (and for anyone with active lifestyle). Would not do again but hesitate not to recommend becsuse based on personal preferences.
