    Norse Heritage

Idun is the Norse goddess of spring, rejuvenation and eternal youth. She is the custodian of the golden apples of immortality which the gods must eat to preserve their youth. In one Viking tale, Idun is tricked by Loki, god of mischief, and she and her apples are seized by the giant Thiassi and locked in his tower. The gods quickly begin to grow old, and they force Loki to rescue Idun. This he does by disguising himself as bird and flying into the tower where he changes Idun and her apples into a small nut that he grasps with his claws, and carries her back to the gods. Idun is married to Bragi, god of poetry. Theirs is an idyllic union.

    Idun

    9/2016 Prague to Paris
    Full Review
We had a wonderful time! We really enjoyed the food, tours, scenery and getting to know the staff and other passengers on a small ship. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The service was excellent! My husband loved the technical aspect of the locks (as an engineer) and gave them an excellent review. It was very interesting! But, the first few mornings we were shaken awake going through the locks, which was a surprise to me. (being from CA it reminded me of an earthquake). Maybe just a warning about the number of locks and the overnight shaking at the start of the trip would be good. Also-going early to tour Prague was a wonderful idea! We got to see a lot more of the city on our own than the included tour.
    Pros staff, food, tours
Cons locks shaking you awake a few mornings at the start of our cruise, not a lot of free time

    Rhine Rhapsody

    5/2016 Switzerland, France, Germany
    Full Review
While this is not an inexpensive trip, it is worth every dime. We had a trip of a lifetime, and cruising the Rhine with the castles at every turn, would be hard to match in future cruises. We do plan to cruise with Viking again, and look forward to another excellent experience.
Pros Everything was first rate: ship, food, staff, excursions, people aboard, accommodations, etc.
Cons A bit of a long bus ride to Paris (5 hours +) but worth it. More organized nightly entertainments would be nice. Just a piano player most nights.
