Viking Longships integrate a patented corridor design* and cutting-edge technology with comfortable amenities that reflect guest preferences and current travel trends. These new features include a revolutionary all-weather indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace that reinvents the onboard lounge experience by bringing the panoramic outdoor river scenery indoors with retractable floor-to-ceiling glass doors, allowing guests to enjoy the views and dine al fresco. Accommodating 190 passengers in 95 staterooms, Viking Longships have a patented layout that allows for two Explorer Suites - the largest river cruise suites in Europe - as well as seven two-room Veranda Suites with a full-size veranda in the living room and a French balcony in the bedroom; 39 Veranda Staterooms with full-size verandas; and 22 French Balcony Staterooms. Additionally, all Longships have sustainability upgrades, such as onboard solar panels and organic herb gardens, and energy-efficient hybrid engines that also reduce vibrations for a remarkably smooth ride.

  • Internet Access - For guests' convenience, all Viking ships have Internet access, as follows:

    • Ships in Europe, Russia and Ukraine - There is free Wi-Fi available, so you can bring your laptop and get online at any time. Alternatively, each ship has a few computers for guest use; there are desktop machines in Russia and laptops in Europe that guests may use free of charge. Guests who bring laptops to Russia may wish to bring a LAN cable for use in their stateroom; this may work a bit better than the wireless LAN in rural areas along the river.
    • Ships in China - There is an Internet caf
    • Pregnancy Policy - Viking reserves the right not to accept passengers who are in an advanced state of pregnancy either upon commencement of or at any time during the river or ocean cruise.

    • Smoking Policy - All Viking ship interiors, staterooms, and verandas are non-smoking. Each ship has an outdoor smoking area, generally on the sun deck.

    • Special Dietary Needs - Advance Notice Required - Viking will make every effort to accommodate special dietary needs. Every meal has vegetarian options on the menu, and chefs are able to prepare low-salt or gluten-free cuisine. Guests requiring special diets, such as diabetic or low-cholesterol meals, must alert Viking Cruises one month prior to departure and inform the Maitre d
    • Wheelchair Access & Special Needs - Guests must report any disability requiring special attention while on their Viking Cruises itinerary to Viking at the time the reservation is made. All vessels and motorcoaches are equipped to European standards. Most transportation services, including the vessels and motorcoaches, are not equipped with elevators or wheelchair ramps. Viking will make reasonable attempts to accommodate the special needs of disabled travelers, but is not responsible in the event it is unable to do so nor is it responsible for any denial of services by vessel operators, air carriers, hotels, restaurants, or other independent suppliers. Viking cannot provide individual assistance to a vacation participant for walking, dining, getting on and off vessels, motorcoaches and other vehicles, or other personal needs. A qualified and physically able companion must accompany travelers who need such assistance and must assume full responsibility for their well being. The guest assumes the full risk of use and of any prohibitions imposed by vendors. Motorized scooters are not typically suitable on international cruises and cannot be accommodated.

Rhine Viking River Cruise

| Basel, Switzerland to Amsterdam, Holland, with extended pre & post stays in Lucerne & Amsterdam
Return flight from Amsterdam on United Airlines wasn't a pleasant experience. Arrived 9 am for 12 noon D.C. flight. Two other flights (Chicago 10 am & Houston 11 am) were lined up, almost out the terminal door to be checked in. United counters not well staffed, not well marked, signage too small (may be fault of airport?) Only 3 counters open. Chicago & Houston passengers being called to front of line, some even missed their flight. D.C. passengers finally checked in. After standing in line for two hours, we were checked in at 11 am to be told boarding started at 11:15 and we had a long walk. United gate D57 was last gate in terminal, no transportation provided by airport for long distances. Almost missed our flight, despite being at the airport 3 hours early. Food on flights was not good. Will do as Europeans do and bring our own food.

Viking Kvasir, Sail Date Monday 8/5/2019

Overall, a very good experience on the Viking Kvasir. The 5 day extension on land upon leaving the ship was well worth the extra money. The Viking tour guide for the extension (Tina Hudnik, from Slovenia) was great!! The best hotel experience was in Geneva (final 2 nights of the extension) at the InterContinental Hotel Geneve. Viking's land coaches were modern, comfortable, and drivers were highly skilled. Local tour guides had plenty of knowledge, patience, and handled all questions.

The Norse god Kvasir is born out of peace. When the two warring factions of the Aesir and the Vanir agree to form a truce, they do so with each god spitting into a bowl and stirring the saliva. From this, Kvasir, a new god of knowledge is created. Kvasir embodies all the gods’ knowledge. So great is his knowledge that there is no question he cannot answer. When two dwarves, Fjalar and Galar invite him to feast with them, Kvasir accepts their invitation only to be murdered by the dwarves. They drain his blood and mix it with honey and ferment it into a highly potent mead. This becomes known as Kvas, the Mead of Poetry, that imparts wisdom and inspiration to all who drink it.
