    Norse Heritage

Njord is the Norse god of the wind, as well as the sea, and was worshipped by Viking fishermen and traders who invoked his name to calm the waters and protect their ships. First married to his sister Nerthus, Njord fathers two children: Freyr, god of the harvest, and Freya, goddess of love. His second wife Skadi, goddess of winter, chooses Njord for his beautiful feet. When her beloved father is slain by the gods, Skadi is allowed to choose a husband from the gods, on the proviso that she makes her choice only by gazing at their feet. She picks Njord by mistake, believing his feet belong to Balder, the younger, fair god of light. Once married, they eventually agree to live apart.

    Luxury river cruising

    9/2016 Nuremberg to Budapest
    Full Review
Cabins have lots of 110v outlets. Bathroom walls made of glass that can switch between clear and translucent. Every room has two rechargeable radio receivers for use with land tours; insures everyone can hear all that the tour guides share. Comfortable beds, thick large towels, comfortable temp in room. Viking appears to target older, well off passengers and does all they can to take care of their passengers. When departed hotel at 3:00 am for airport they had a rep at the hotel to insure we got off ok and then had a rep meet us at the airport to help us get checked in. Also arranged for a "box" breakfast to take with us to the airport. Nice selection of tasty food options for all three meals each day.

    Bring Your Most Comfortable Shoes

    4/2015 Budapest to Passau
    Full Review
It was a great trip and we learned a lot about this part of the world. One of the best things is that while there is a lot of structure, ultimately the passenger controls how much activity to engage in. You can simply stay on the boat , relax in the sunshine and read. You can go on the daily excursions and them come back to the ship to rest or go off on your own to explore. If you are really ambitious, you can go on the optional tours. While all the stops were wonderful, Budapest was the best. It was hard to leave, but the night-time sail out of Budapest with all the buildings lit up was just spectacular.
Pros This is a beautiful ship and the crew could not have been nicer. The food was excellent with a good variety of local foods and dishes. There was also lots of fresh fruit and a vegetarian option at every meal. Every day there was a good balance of activity and leisure time. There were passengers from all over the US, Canada and Great Britain and it was fun to discuss everyone's different perspective on Central Europe.
Cons A lot of the excursions involved long walks. While efforts were made to accomadate the few passengers in wheel chairs or using canes, these are a real challenge on cobblestone streets.
