Rüdesheim, part of the Rheingau wine region (famous for its superior rieslings), is deluged by some three million day-tripping coach tourists a year. Depending on how you look at it, the town centre – and especially its most famous feature, an alley know as Drosselgasse – is either a ‘mass tourism nightmare from hell’ or a lot of silly, kitschy, colourful fun. If you’re looking for a souvenir thimble, this is definitely the place to come, but Rüdesheim also offers a variety of delightful vineyard walks.
