15 Days with Princess

We spent 15 days cruising from Los Angeles to several ports in and around Hawaii with our elderly parents. We were very impressed with the general staff around the ship. A flu strain broke out on our 2nd or 3rd day and the staff helped to keep it very contained. We loved our waiter and his assistant, Jose from Portugal and Hendrey, in the Amalfi dining room early service. We had some complaint with the timing of the shows; with elderly folks, it was very hard to catch a 7:45 show and the next one on the opposite end of the ship at 10:00. The main band didn't impress us too much with their "same sound", no matter what they were singing. Since they seemed to be the headliners, that got a bit old, quick. They weren't bad, just...kind of boring. Other than that, the staff were so assistive with our folks, and polite, helpful, and unobtrusive. The talks, classes, lectures and games were well hosted. The food was mostly lovely - I personally gained 5 pounds. In quick review, I'd say the Princess staff were very well trained, the ship ran like an orchestra for embarkation, debarkation, tours, and tenders. My husband and I would both highly recommend Princess again. LOVED the mini-balcony upgrade we received with the full bathtub.

We took our whole family (12) on the Northbound Inside Passage Cruise to Alaska and it was a dream. The food was wonderful. The dining staff was top notch. They even made our grandson's favorite dish one night. The Kids Club was great. We had 3 grandkids with us and they didn't want to leave the ship they had so much fun. The Cruise Director and Entertainment staff were great. Our daughter competed in the Voice of the Ocean and was so thrilled to be able to sing with a live band in the finals. Our rooms were great. We had a mini suite with a balcony, so that we could all get together when we needed to and that turned out great.

Vancouver to Whittier

All of our excursions were excellent except there was not enough time allowed on the Wilderness/Mendenhall Glacier excursion. Glacier Bay was magnificent and we really appreciated the National Park Rangers who spend their day with us. They were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The time at College Fjord was reduced by half the time listed on the Princess Patter, which was EXTREMELY disappointing. We would gladly have skipped dinner if we had known. On a side note: the timing for that stop surely could've avoided the dinner seatings, since we were such a short distance from Whittier. What was the rush? In addition to the ship, the hotels on land were dated as well. Toilet seat slid around at one, tv didn't work (maintenance repaired it and very quickly) and hvac didn't work (could not be repaired) at another. Food seemed to be the same at all land hotels, so we found ourselves searching for other options in Fairbanks (not difficult). The availability of public spaces at all of the hotels was a welcome treat. The coordination of people, luggage, meals, excursions, transfers and transit, was a work of art. Very well done and impressive. Love, love, loved our waiter, Francisco, and junior waiter, Jeffyboy, at table 222 in the Amalfi dining room. Almost more impressive, by virtue that we weren't in his section, was Rene working the tables next to us. We were also exceedingly well treated by head waiter Renzo, who was so attentive, especially to my mom and nieces. They all made dinner such a pleasure. The physical condition of the ship and the hotels keep the overall rating at 4 stars instead of 5.

All was well until we came back to SF and realized the next day that my IPOD had been stolen from the center armrest storage. I thought since they had the key and were watching the car it would be OK. I know they will not stand behind it, but I was in business for myself for thirty-seven years and I know my intolerance for thieves. I would not recommend the parking garage at 55 Francisco to any of your future customers

Cruise Alaska review

Princess delivers a fine cruise! My only complaints hover around the dining room. We had "anytime" seating. One night the Capri dining room was crowded so we were moved to the Amalfi dining room. Comparing the 2 dining rooms it was my observation that the service in Amalfi was better, maybe there were more people on staff, and much faster. We were served and finished in one hour. In the Capri we were never finished in less than 2 hours! One of those meals the dining room was almost empty and the waiters were just hanging around, chatting, and ignoring the fact that we were staring at our empty plates. My other complaint was the food choices. I would have liked to see an occasional choice of "plain" food, meaning food that could be delicious without drowning in a sauce. I have to be very careful of my salt intake and the menus offered nothing I felt were safe for me to eat. I found myself wanting to eat all the time in the buffet where I could prepare a salt-free salad. I understand that the use of sauces helps keep the food moist, especially in a banquet environment. I don't know what the answer would be yet I am sure I am not the only one with the issue. I'm not supposed to lose weight on a cruise!!!

This cruise was very relaxing, enjoyed the sea days as well as the port days- thought I might find myself bored with so many sea days, but with the ports in between, we thoroughly enjoyed the sea days with activities or lounging on the deck. The service exceeded our expectations. We ate in the open dining room for dinner, the food was great with multiple options to choose from. Our waiters were top notch, so much so that we went to the same table every night just to have the same waiters. The hostesses were very friendly and welcoming, they knew where we would be sitting and made sure our table was ready. Would definitely recommend the Crown Grill, their food was outstanding and service was excellent. Our group agreed we would definitely do this same cruise again. Hopefully sooner than later!

For those traveling for a food experience this was great, but I rather prefer a mid size ship for travel. With almost 3000 people on the ship and so many handicapped it made things move slower than expected. However, the service was great in most cases and the service people very helpful and friendly. Eating in the dinning area seemed like a factory with so many people to feed at one time and service people rushing around. Was hard to relax and enjoy your meal. We did go to the "service charged" dinning rooms and felt more at ease and relaxed and the area was quiet and more to what you would expect on a cruise.

We were unable to dock on Kaui because of wind. the ship circled the island,but visiblity was poor. The wind on Maui was very strong and cut off tender service miday. Most people who wanted to get off did.

Boarding in San Francisco should have been easy but due to a dock workers conflict, it turned out to be very stressful. Ensenada is Ensenada but the beer and guacamole made up for the time we were there. Wish the weather had been better, 17foot swells on the way to Hawaii! Next time we will definetly reserve staterooms midship, less rocky rocky. Really enjoyed the stops in Hawaii, just wish there was more time. The weather was beautiful the whole time we were there. The return trip was rocky but not quite as bad as the trip over.

The Captain of the ship was very approachable as he made his rounds of the ship twice daily. He seems very thorough as he keep the passengers up-to-date on what was happening as we proceeded into rough seas. He closed off the outside areas as the seas become rough. I was very impressed with his safety of all. Did notice the ship dress code for dinner was more laxed than my last cruise. Overall the trip was great.

I found that the class of boat (Golden, Grand, Star) just fit what I enjoy. Not big, not crowded, fancy enough for me. Easy to get around. I do enjoy the Food Court. I like the variety and the convenience of having food at your beck and call all day long. I am not a person that really enjoys dressing up so I feel comfortable on these boats. Besides, they are in my home ports in California. No flying.

I would have given 5 stars except I was very tired of all the sales pitches. It's like the staff is commissioned sales team. Do not like that and for that reason giving 4 stars. Photographer - Mr T so wonderful and his activity best on board. He is patient and good teacher to take photo's of gray, cloudy glaciers. Would have been nice to have more offerings in photo lessons. Assistant Activity Director - young blond woman from South Africa was the best! So much energy and great sense of humor. Dinner - last night cork broke when waiter opened the 100 dollar bottle of wine we ordered. He continued to serve it with cork pieces in each glass. When we mentioned it he brought a strainer device but still had cork pieces in it. Should be trained to immediately replace it with new bottle and not try to serve up wine with cork bits in it. That was only incident or negative comment about meal time. l

I had a great time. From pools and recreation, to shows and entertainment. One of the best times on a cruise I have had. I like the time at sea and the rough waters and wild winds. My wish came true, riding the waves at sea. Also met a lot of people on the ship from all over the world, along with meeting crew members. I can't believe how many people new me and called me by name. Conversations were really interesting at the dinner table, where we enjoyed each others day adventure. The fire in the kitchen was also neat. Captain even mad a joke about it. It was a coffee maker.

We took this cruise with our 5 daughters and their husbands, in celebration of our 50th Wedding Anniversary. The service was exceptional and the anniversary celebration for us and two of our five daughters who were celebrating anniversaries, as well, was memorable. The two dinner waiters joined in our fun and we became close friends. The weather was exceptionally mild for this time of year, which added to our enjoyment.

Of all of the cruises we have taken this was probably the most relaxing. Four sea days each way we're no problem, they had outstanding lecturers on board to provide education. Many activities to keep busy if that was what you wanted or reading and relaxing if that was your choice. It is a trip I might consider repeating in the future.

The wilderness experience was really wonderful. We saw Moose, Wolf, Caribou, Willow Ptarmigan (the state bird) . Our coach just about hit a moose going from Copper River Lodge and Valdez. The driver was fast and on top of his driving.

Food was wonderful of course. Colder weather meant we had adult pool/back bar area almost to ourselves for most of the cruise. Most of the staff was wonderful, a few not so great, but the good outshone the bad. Specialty dining was a beautiful setting, but not really worth the extra charge. Food & service were actually a bit better in the "regular" dining area. Glad we tried it, but wouldn't do it again on this ship. Production show was really fun.

The lady who took care of our Stateroom did a very good job and was always very pleasant, with a smile on her face. Thr crew made you feel like you were the only people on the ship always very accomdating to our needs. My wife and I really enjoyed our trip to Alaska. The ship was beautiful and the service was wonderful. For the most part we enjoyed our excursions with the exception of the train ride in Skagway. The train broke down and they had to back down the mountain to change to another engine. We wanted to get off for medical reasons but, no one was in our car to address the issue. We filed a complaint with the Star Princess shore excursions office but never received a response, or refund. The other issue was the traffic jam getting to and from the ship. It was a cluster. The weather was beautiful, sunny with no rain, and the seas were very calm. We saw plenty of wild life from our balcony. I would still recommend this trip.

The destinations make this trip - if one is interested in Patagonia and Buenos Aires, this trip meets that objective. We found the service to be very good - attentive (but not too much) stateroom service, dining room service (fixed seating) very good, and when we needed assistance with excursions, staff was very knowledgeable and provided what we needed with a smile. We certainly are not technical experts, but it seemed to us the captain and his staff were very capable in dealing with these difficult waters - we always felt that passenger and staff safety were paramount in ship operations.

Ship was well maintained, never had any issues with our cabin or our steward. Very friendly staff and they were helpful. Ports of call were easy to navigate and enough to do to keep someone occupied. Activities on board were ok. Crowd on board were 50s and older so the entertainment was geared for that generation. Not a bad thing just not much night life. Only issue I had was that I have a gluten allergy and had very limited selection of food choice for breakfast. I had pancakes every day for 7 days. The desserts were very limited to non-existent from the food court. Dining room had better selection for lunch and dinner. They need to work with a nutrition consultant to make better meals for those that have food allergies. Never got sick from any food being contaminated but which there was more selection.

This is our tenth cruise with a Princess ship...our first was with the Love Boat. We were very pleased with our room Stewart, Rodel! Our waiter, Kong, and his assistant, Brian, could not have done more to help us. Kong saw early in the cruise that my husband who has very limited vision, saw that I was cutting my husband’s food into smaller pieces. After two days of this observation, Kong came as soon as he could, and cut my husband’s food into smaller, bite size pieces. Kong is most efficient and helpful and can accomplish this with his helpful assistant, Brian.
