Proudly bearing the name of the founder of Hurtigruten. MS Richard With is named after the founder of Hurtigruten, Captain Richard With. His establishment of the Norwegian Coastal Express back in 1893 had an enormous impact in life along the Norwegian coast.

This ship was delivered to us in 1993, 100 years after our founder completed his first ever Hurtigruten voyage. On board there is beautiful art by the famous Harr family. The panorama lounges, Horisont and Syvstjernen, treat you to unforgettable views of the surrounding scenery. There are also eight junior suites on board.

Each Hurtigruten ship has something unique to offer. Despite their differences, they all provide the same intimate travel experience, with their own informal atmosphere. Comfortable lounges and ample deck space afford perfect views as you glide through some of the world's most beautiful and untouched coastal scenery.

Tipping Policy

It is not common practice to tip on Hurtigruten ships on the coastal voyage, but if a guest feels that crew members should be rewarded for providing exceptional service, tip boxes and envelopes can be found in the restaurant.

Currency - Norwegian currency is used on board. Most major currencies may be exchanged. Visa, American Express, MasterCard, and Diners Card are all accepted. A cruise card can be obtained and used for payment for extras and settled at the end of your voyage. This may be subject to change.
Electrical - Electrical outlets on the vessel are 220v AC.
Language - Norwegian and English are the official onboard languages. The personnel at the reception and some of the service crew may also speak German. Tour Leaders speak Norwegian, English, and German.
Medical Emergencies - There is no doctor or pharmacy on board. However, officers are trained in first aid and can provide emergency medical assistance. The ships are also close to land.
Safety Information - Hurtigruten ships are working vessels operating a regular service to a set timetable. The ships carry goods, vehicles, and passengers between ports, by night and day, as an integral part of Norwegian daily life. Hurtigruten ships are calling at ports around the clock.
It is a safety requirement that all Hurtigruten passengers attend a compulsory safety briefing in Bergen before the ship leaves port. After check-in, and prior to embarkation, please go to the first floor of the terminal building where the safety briefing will be given at regular intervals by Hurtigruten staff. This briefing will last between 10
Smoking Policy - Smoking is only permitted in designated areas on the outside decks. It is not permitted when the ships are in port and fueling. The staff will advise when it is not allowed to smoke outside. Smoking in the cabins is prohibited and subject to a fine.
Special Dietary Needs - Advance Notice Required - If you have special dietary requests, please inform Hurtigruten at the time of booking. They will do their best to meet such requests but cannot guarantee they will be able to do so. Special requests will not be accepted by Hurtigruten as part of the contractual agreement. Passengers on strict diets, such as vegan/vegetarian, may find that there is a limited choice.
Wheelchair Access & Special Needs - Hurtigruten is happy to welcome guests who are not fully mobile. All ships (except MS Lofoten) have at least one cabin equipped for travelers using a wheelchair. Guests who use a wheelchair must bring their own, standard sized, foldable chair. Guests who need assistance in order to get around may need to travel with a companion. Those who are able to navigate around the ship unaided in a wheelchair need not have a travel companion. Please discuss this matter with your booking agent.
In mainland Norwegian ports there is a ramp for embarkation/disembarkation.
Excursions have not been adapted specifically for passengers with walking difficulties. Please contact Hurtigruten, or the Tour Leader once onboard, for additional information regarding suitable excursions . It is important that you notify Hurtigruten of special requirements at the time of booking so they may be able to make the necessary arrangements for you.
