  • Special Dietary Needs - Advance Notice Required -

Special dietary requests, such as vegetarian, diabetic or gluten-free meals, are easily accommodated with advance notice. Kosher meals and a Health Conscious Dining option are also available. To arrange special meals, please contact the Ship Services Department at 1-800-541-1576 at least 90 days prior to departure.

    Food Allergies

For guests with food intolerances or allergies that are NOT life-threatening, please contact the Ship Services Department at (800)541-1576.

For guests with life-threatening food allergies, guests are asked to provide detailed information to the Access & Compliance Department by completing a Special Requirements Information (SRI) Form. Guests should indicate on this form which foods may potentially cause a severe reaction. Guests with a variety of severe food allergies sail with Holland America Line regularly. The galley staff on board is accustomed to and experienced in dealing with these types of needs. The galley itself has many different areas of food preparation, which can help reduce the possibility of cross-contamination. It is important to note, however, that meals are prepared in mass quantities on board, thus there is always the possibility of some cross-contamination. As such, Holland America Line cannot guarantee that a guest will not come in contact with those items. Although the Access & Compliance Department will provide the ship with an advance notice of all food allergies detailed on an SRI submitted to them, it is recommended that guests also contact the Dining Room Manager upon boarding to review the details of these special dietary needs.

  • Medical Emergencies -

If passengers become ill or injured during the voyage and the diagnostic and/or care needs exceed the capabilities of the infirmary, passengers will be transferred to medical facilities ashore.

Please note: Medicare and many health insurance plans DO NOT cover the cost of medical care at sea, in foreign countries, or for air evacuation. Guests are encouraged to obtain travel medical insurance prior to travel in order to be reimbursed for services rendered.

  • Pregnancy Policy -

Women cannot have begun their 24th week of pregnancy at any time before or during the cruise.

If you are pregnant, a physician

  • Smoking Policy -

For the comfort of all guests, smoking is prohibited in all staterooms, showrooms, and most other indoor areas. While smoking is not permitted in staterooms, guests are allowed to smoke on stateroom verandahs. Smoking is also permitted on certain other designated, outside decks. The designated smoking areas for all ships are as follows unless otherwise noted.

    • Stateroom verandahs
    • Casino (Active players only)
    • Seaview Bar
    • Outside Decks
    • Sports Deck

Cigar and pipe smoking is NOT allowed anywhere inside the ship; it is only permitted on the outside decks where smoking is allowed and on stateroom verandahs.

Electronic cigarettes are permitted in staterooms but not in other public areas of the ship other than on outside decks designated as smoking areas.

Any guest caught smoking inside their stateroom will be considered in violation of Holland America's smoking policy, and will be charged a US$250 cleaning fee per day of violation.

  • Wheelchair Access & Special Needs -

Holland America Line is committed to providing safe, easy, and accessible accommodations for all persons with disabilities, to the extent that is feasible. However, some needs require adequate time to prepare for a guest's arrival. It is recommended that guests make every effort to contact the Access & Compliance Department and submit a Special Requirements Information (SRI) Form well in advance of the departure of their cruise and/or cruisetour. It is recommended that an SRI form be submitted immediately upon booking, or a minimum of 45 days prior to departure.

Guests who are unable to care for their basic needs (e.g. dressing, eating, and attending safety drills) MUST have a capable traveling companion. The medical staff on board is not available for daily care unless an individual is hospitalized in the ship's Medical Center. In limited situations (either on board or ashore), Holland America may find it necessary to ask the individual to make alternative travel arrangements, such as if an individual with a disability is unable to satisfy certain specified safety and other criteria, even when provided with appropriate auxiliary aids and services.

    Wheelchair-Accessible Staterooms

Holland America Line vessels have specially designed staterooms for guests who use wheelchairs. If you have not booked a wheelchair accessible staterooms, but instead will be using a standard stateroom, it is important to know about some limitations that adversely impact maneuverability, especially ingress and egress into bathrooms. For example, bathroom dimensions, doorsills, and the height of bathtubs in standard staterooms are often difficult to negotiate for guests who have limited mobility. Additionally, standard stateroom doors and hallways may be too narrow for a wheelchair or scooter* to maneuver into and out of the stateroom.

*Note: For safety reasons, these mobility devices must be stored and charged in the guests' staterooms.

Wheelchair Accessible Staterooms offer features such as wider entry doors, roll-in showers with grab bars and benches/seats, and hand-held shower nozzles, as well as lowered closet and towel rods.

    • Wheelchair accessible stateroom entry doors measure 32 inches wide.
    • Wheelchair accessible bathroom doors measure 32 inches wide.

Accessible stateroom locations are noted on the Deck Plans for each ship.

    Ship Transfer Options

For individuals with limited mobility, the use of a wheelchair will be the primary mobility assistance aid for getting on and off the ship. Certain ship transfer operations (i.e. during tendering and at the gangways) may not be fully accessible to wheelchairs or scooters. When a ship is unable to dock, guests are taken ashore on smaller boats called tenders. Some guests with limited mobility may find it difficult to embark or disembark the ship at certain times while tendering or while docked due to steep gangways and steps, particularly during low or high tide. Also, please note that scooters and wheelchairs which are more than 100 lbs. (without the battery) are not allowed to be transferred from the ship to tender and/or from tender to shore.

Most Holland America Line vessels have been retrofitted with a tender-lift system that enables guests to roll directly on and off tenders while remaining in their wheelchairs. However, please be advised that adverse weather conditions such as wind, swells, or extreme tide levels may prohibit the use of the ship's tender lift equipment. Additionally, some port facilities may not be able to accommodate the lift equipment. If you require the use of this equipment, please speak with the Guest Relations Manager upon embarkation for further details or to coordinate specific arrangements.

Situations may occur in which guests with limited mobility may not be able to go ashore at the time they desire or are unable to go ashore at all in certain ports. For the safety of all concerned, the Captain shall make the final determination regarding whether or not it is advisable to provide assistance to guests with mobility impairments, or to carry their mobility assistance device (wheelchair, scooter, walker, etc.), taking into account all appropriate matters including, but not limited to, weather conditions, ship's location, weight of the guest or their mobility device, etc.

    Personal Mobility Equipment

For the safety of all guests and crew, and to enhance accessibility, Holland America Line strongly recommends that all personal electric mobility equipment meet the following criteria:

    • Width: 23" maximum (in order to be accommodated in a standard stateroom), unless collapsible to a width of 23" or less
    • Weight: 100 lbs. maximum (without battery)
    • Batteries: Must be gel or dry cell or AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) only

Holland America Line recognizes that for some people, a larger scooter may be essential. If you believe you need a larger scooter, please contact the Access & Compliance Department to discuss your requirements.

For the safety of all guests and crew, scooters and other mobility equipment need to be securely stored and charged in the guest's stateroom, not in hallways or elevator lobbies. Scooters left in hallways and elevator lobbies could restrict people needing to travel through these areas in an emergency, particularly other guests using mobility aids, since they would have no way of getting by a scooter left in a hallway.

Holland America Line is no longer able to provide complimentary wheelchair assistance for any purpose other than embarkation, disembarkation, and emergency situations. Holland America Line wheelchairs are not available for shore excursions or for use on board. If you will require regular use of a wheelchair, it is recommended that you bring your own wheelchair with you. You may also make advance rental arrangements prior to your sailing and have a wheelchair delivered directly to the ship for use on board and in ports of call.

Special Needs at Sea and CareVacations/CruiseShipAssist are the vendors that Holland America Line has approved for delivery of mobility devices. Please contact these vendors directly for pricing and availability.

Please be advised that all pre-arranged mobility equipment rentals must be made by the guest and the third party provider. Consequently, you assume the entire risk of utilizing these third party services subject only to whatever terms or arrangements are made by you or on your behalf with the service provider. Refund issues must be dealt with solely between you and the service provider. We recommend contacting one of these companies to confirm your arrangements as soon as possible in order to ensure the availability of your specific requests.

    Shoreside Wheelchair Assistance

Because facilities in ports around the world vary significantly, wheelchair accommodations may not be available for some land tours and/or shore excursions. Furthermore, many transportation vehicles around the world do not have wheelchair lifts. Thus, it may be necessary for Holland America Line to make alternate transportation arrangements such as a sedan vehicle. This requires that a guest who uses a wheelchair be able to transfer from his/her wheelchair to the front or back seat of a sedan. Due to the limited number of lift-equipped vehicles in foreign locations, guests may incur additional costs for transportation related to airport transfers, shore excursions, and tour/hotel packages. Please note, lift equipped transportation within the United States may be arranged without additional costs. For information on alternative transportation arrangements and associated costs please contact the Access & Compliance Department . Please advise Holland America Line as far in advance as possible of any special needs for transfers. This will help to ensure availability of the appropriate vehicle(s) and for Holland America Line to provide an estimate of additional associated costs.

Guests should be aware that certain third party shore excursion facilities may not be fully accessible to guests with disabilities. Although Holland America Line endeavors to make sure these companies comply with legal requirements, they cannot guarantee that all are able to provide facilities that are accessible to individuals with disabilities. For detailed information on accessibility of shore excursions, it is strongly recommend that guests contact the Shore Excursions Department prior to embarkation at 1-888-425-9376 (or locally at 206-626-7320) or visit the Shore Excursions Office on board.

Wheelchair assistance that is requested for airports or train stations must be done directly through the airline or rail station. Holland America Line is not able to arrange for wheelchair assistance at airports or train stations.

Nice, but wait until after its refit

| St. Maarten; St. Lucia; Barbados; St. Kitts; Martinique; St. Thomas
For a first ocean cruise experience, the Oosterdam was fine. I prefer the size of the ship to the 4000+ mega-ships we saw en route: easier to get around and get off (although it was usually a bit of a scrum when disembarking). The food was good, and even though we had open seating in the main restaurant, we rarely had to wait, especially if we were willing to share a table. We enjoyed meals in the Canaletto (but they need to learn not to serve the pasta and the main courses at the same time), and the Pinnacle - both worth the extra money. Our stateroom with verandah was very nice, and a perfectly adequate size. Overall I would recommend the ship, especially after its refit which should take care of some of the normal wear and tear and signs of age it was showing.

Alaska Southbound

| Seward, Ketchican, Haines, Juneau, Vancouver
Our stewards were a little on the lacked side. We only saw them once. Never experienced that before.

Ship Review

| Alaska
The captain made sure we saw the glacier up close by stopping and turning the ship from side to side. He also pointed out whales and other wildlife his spotters saw along the way. He seemed to enjoy the voyage as much as his guests.

Eastern and Southern Caribbean on Oosterdam

| St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Martinique, St. Martin
Ship had norovirus on previous trip so staff very tied up with sanitation and monitoring people the first few days - did a great job considering. We miss having lectures about our destinations that involve more than just shopping.

Southern Caribbean

| Caribbean
Refurbishing has been scheduled

Over-The-Top

| Santiago,Chile; Coquimbo,Chile;Lima, Peru; Manta, Ecuador; Fuente Amador; Oranjestad, Aruba
We were on the Oosterdam 17 day Inca and Panama Canal Discovery. Our room stewards, Ketut and Agung, were outstanding. They were very hospitable, courteous, extremely prompt to our needs and truly outstanding. The food also on this ship was above even the levels we have experienced before on Holland America. The captain was friendly, outgoing and willing to share information. The cruise staff could not have been better. Unfortunately, many passengers were coughing...a lot.

Oosterdam cruise, west indies

| St. Lucia, Barbados, st martin, st kits, st Thomas, martinique
Holland America keeps cutting back. Little at a time. However, I believe it is still the best choice for an affordable cruise. May become a problem in future as cuts could reduce quality so not much different from other cruise companies.

Great time in the Western Mediterranean

| Spain, Gibraltar, France and Italy
The singers and dancers were very talented and entertaining, but they only performed 3 times on a 12 day cruise. The B. B. King band was very good.

Ooesterdam

| Ft. Lauderdale, Half Moon Cay, Dominican Republic, Grand Turk, Bonaire, Cura
This cruise was so great, weather, food, meeting new friends at our dining table, and working with our long time friend and hard working cruise consultant!!

Oosterdam review

Overall good

Amazing Experience

| Alaska, Canada
We liked the fact that this was a smaller ship, with less passengers. Our cabin stewards were AMAZING! Very helpful and tended to our stateroom with so much pride in their job. A huge bonus, was the fact that each day there is a Catholic Mass on board the ship, such a treat for us. We found that the bartenders were not that friendly, and didn't seem to be interested in their job. The wait staff in the dining room was hit or miss. Some were friendly some, not so much. Overall a beautiful holiday!

December in Hawaii

| Hawaii
Cabin crew and dining room staff were superlative, and our room was wonderful. The string quartet was a delightful and informative change from the low level pseudo Vegas acts in the theater. American test kitchen shone. The many days at sea without a naturalist or historian dragged on and on. We had expected informative programs daily like those on a recent HA Alaskan cruise.

South America

| Antarctica
We enjoyed the cruise very much. Shore excursions were great.

Alaska- Glacier Discovery

| Alaska
The friendly Filipino staff was a big hit with the passengers. I was impressed with the health precautions taken by Holland America. There was NO self service at buffet or beverage stations for the first two days of sailing. Frequent hand washing and use of the well placed hand sanitizers was strongly encouraged. The Captain was extremely personable during the cruise. He came on the PA to announce whale sightings and areas of interest. This made it especially interesting for first time Alaska cruisers.

Escape from the cold!

| Grand Turk, San Juan, St Thomas, Half Moon Cay
Great trip with outstanding dining experience, great staff and entertainment.

Oosterdam sailing to the Hawaiian Islands round trip from San Diego

| Round trip around Hawaiian Islands from San Diego
It has been nine years since we did deep water sailing, primarily with Holland America....and now we are ready to do more of it. We noticed some changes in the last decade.....we prefer the smaller ships but then we very much enjoyed the new activities offered with more space: The Lincoln Center Stage is a fabulous success....will probably choose a trip based on the availability of that offering. Missed basics such as trays in the Lido....am sure it better controls waste to have staff control the servings, but it is very awkward to try and carry several dishes and a glass to a table. Also, doesn't seem to be HAL without someone doing ice carving! As always with HAL, room and dining room stewards were top notch. Will look forward to sailing again with HAL very soon.

Alaska

| Alaska
Seemed to be an unusual number of staff who were "trainees" in different areas around the ship. Front desk not sure of correct answers and conferred frequently with other staff members. Transfer Cancelled but no good explanation to explain why. Room Steward failed to leave forms or instructions to resupply fruit or water purchase. Needed more communication. Good system in the dining room for open seating. Very good response to people who needed assistance both on and off the ship.

Wonderful trip.

Had a great trip. The staff is wonderfully always smiling and very helpful.

Very nice family vacation

| Alaska
We had a great time on the Oosterdam. Just the right sized ship, beautiful stateroom suites, loved the Neptune Lounge feature -- so convenient and helpful staff. Very well organized regarding getting off at the ports of call and making it a seamless process.

First time in Alaska!

| Alaska
Our family had a wonderful time onboard the Oosterdam. Loved being on a smaller (but not too small) ship and enjoyed seeing the beautiful ports in Alaska. Staff onboard went out of their way to make sure everything was wonderful. Our cabin steward, dining room staff and everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful.

Fantastic Voyage!

| Vancouver, Ketchican, Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay, Seward
I've travelled with other lines - Holland America is tops in my book.

Alaska Land & Cruise

| Alaska
Westmark in Fairbanks, the bathrooms were outdated & tile in tub area & floor were rusty & dirty. Mt McKinley outside of Denali was dark & outdated & the carpet was dirty. The bathroom had very little space to set your toiletries in trying to get ready.

Not up to Holland America Standards

| Key West, Grand Turk, Amber Cove and Half Moon Cay.
In the Lido Market (buffet) they had the names of the desserts on display, however, nothing was marked so you had to try to guess what name went with what dessert in the display case. One night, they had "no sugar added" chocolate. I guess I picked the wrong one because my blood sugar level that night was 395. In the Pinnacle Dining room, we went there for breakfast. My daughter ordered the pancakes on the menu and it said that it came with bananas and blueberries. When the pancakes arrived, it had bananas only. My daughter asked about the blueberries and the staff member said that they did not come with blueberries and walked away. A few minutes later, she came to check on us and I asked her for some blueberries and she then brought the blueberries. The presentation of the food was so bad we ended up talking to the Restaurant Operations Manager. He seemed VERY CONCERNED about the problems. (I can't say enough good things about him!)

Oosterdam Trip

| Key West, Mahogany Bay, Belize and Cozumel
Great new innovation in music in Lincoln Center Lounge. Every type of music from B.B. King's all-stars to classical. Stop at Belize was a waste of time.

Wonderful experience!

| Cabo, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta
For as much money as we spent, we felt bored at times while on the ship. It would be nice to have activities designed for all ages, not just the older generation.

the cruising and food and land excursions were great but getting on and off the ship was a pain

Thanksgiving Cruise to Mexico

Neither the entertainment nor the food approached the quality of prior cruises on HAL.

tale of two cruises, 1st half,2nd half

| tampa,key west, honduras, guatamala,costa maya
Virus on previous cruise caused disruption in most areas

Fantastic Cruise

| Haines/Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, Vancouver, B.C.
Fantastic experience, no glitches or bad experience on any part of the cruise

Alaska land/cruise trip

| Fairbanks, Anchorage, Denali, Seward, Glacier Bay, Haines, Juneau, Ketchikan, Vancouver, Victoria
Overall trip very nice, saw a large chunk of Alaska. Some of the excursions very expensive for a person could have done on their own.

Recent cruise on the Oosterdam

| Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Thomas and Half Moon Cay
We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation onboard.

Our First Cruise To Alaska 2014

| From Anchorage, Alaska to Vancouver, BC
The Oosterdam was a well maintained ship filled with a gracious and very accommodating crew. The stateroom was kept clean and orderly with small personal touches every night from the pursers. Being a foodie I have to admit that the food was much better than I had imagined, in fact it was very good with a large, ever changing selection. The land excursions provided by HAC were fantastic and well executed by the excursion teams, definitely worth the extra money.

Cruise to Alaska

My husband was not thrilled with the food. A cake was presented for his birthday, which was very nice and tasty.

HAL Oosterdam August/4/2013

| Alaska Inside Passage
With stops at Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, plus a day sailing Tracy Arm, the Seattle Inside Passage cruise on the Holland America Oosterdan is the perfect Alaska getaway for first timers and avid cruisers alike!

Onboard venues offer the best in Culinary Arts presentations, Digital Workshops, port shopping talks, a movie theater, ship library, and so much more. Be sure to plan a stop at the spa, shopping at the onboard shops, an evening at the Vista Lounge or just reading good book. Your cruise vacation can be as active or relaxing as you choose.

Whether exploring one of the ports of call or relaxing during an at sea day there is truly something for everyone on the Holland America Oosterdam!

Oosterdam

| Southern Carribean
Enjoyed the cruise. The people that work on the ship are amazing and work so hard, they are a real pleasure. Just have noticed things are not quite as good as they used to be ex., the dinner meals. Also wondering why wifi is not provided without a cost. We have traveled all over and wifi is readily available everywhere.

The staff was the best!

| Alaska
It was our first cruise and we had a lot of fun. We'd certainly consider going again.
