Four Seasons Westlake Village
I just returned from 3 wonderful nights at the Four Seasons Westlake Village, CA, a resort just a little over an hour’s drive from Los Angeles Airport. The stay was a real treat, and an extremely relaxing quick getaway. Also on property is the California Health and Longevity Institute, which, according to their website, “offers a comprehensive approach to health and well-being in the areas of medicine, nutrition, fitness and life balance”.
The Westlake Village spa is an amazing, serene retreat from the world outside. As a guest, you are welcome to use the facilities at any time; the Four Seasons prides itself on not charging extra resort fees. (Compared to some Four Seasons resorts, this one is quite reasonable). Attached to the spa is a magnificent outdoor pool area which is surrounded by gardens. The spa itself has a wall of breathtaking orchids in the peaceful lounge area where you can sleep or just relax on lounge chairs before and after your spa treatments.
Because it was a bit breezy outside, we spent some time at the second pool, which is indoors, but has a high atrium ceiling so you get the benefit of light and beauty but are protected from the cold. Room service delivers to the pool, and there are baskets of fruit and pitchers of ice water near the comfortable chairs.
And the food…it is wonderful. My favorite place to eat is the Lobby Lounge, where people can either sit on sofas or chairs near low tables, or at regular dinner tables. Their waterfall and gardens are just outside of the Lounge windows, so it is another place to just take your time and slow down. Some food favorites of mine are their short ribs and their New York steak, but I also love their lobster wrap. You don’t have to be afraid to make special requests, and they’ll even share recipes if you ask. (They also offer cooking classes and demonstrations).
Because there isn’t much for children to do at this resort (no special kids programs), it is a place where you can go and know it won’t be a noisy experience. That being said, their only store is their spa store, which sells a few soft drinks, magazines and books; but other than that, you can really only buy spa-type products.
The resort is close to the freeway, which you can see from one side of the hotel, however, I didn’t find it distracting, and there is great insulation from sound. Beyond the freeway are the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains – you should ask for the view of the waterfall as it is lovely.
This is my fourth time at the Four Seasons Westlake, and I will be going back again, I’m sure.
