I just spent 5 nights at the Hyatt Regency Chicago and have gathered some information about this hotel for those not familiar with it. It is in a fabulous location above one of the Metras (which goes to the suburbs) and adjacent to the Illinois Center and underground Pedway to use in case of bad weather. The Pedway is about 3 miles total under the City. It is also within a couple of blocks of Millennium Park, one block from Michigan Avenue, and in what they now call the New Eastside. This is a huge hotel with over 2,000 rooms, and it is a convention hotel so keep that in mind when booking. They just finished renovating their West Tower, but the East Tower (which contains the main lobby) will be renovated starting next January. It is best to request the West Tower, which is less busy and has very nice, soft goods. However, there is very little space in the bathroom for your “stuff”.

The walls at the hotel are kind of thin and their housekeeping department isn’t the greatest. They add “incidentals” to your bill at the end (mine amounted to $49) which they take off your card after 7 days and after they’ve checked to see if you used anything like pay TV or the mini bar. This was not explained at check-in and the mini bar is $25 if you put anything of your own into it. Wi-Fi is $13.75 per day except for Club floor people. There is also a 24 hour “stand” in the lobby where you can get fresh fruit, sandwiches, cold drinks, etc. This is not what I would consider a luxury property, but I definitely would recommend it and stay there again.
