ITINERARY
- DAY 1 DEPART USA* Board your overnight transatlantic flight.
- DAY 2 ARRIVE IN CAIRO, EGYPT Welcome to Egypt! You will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to begin exploring this ancient city on your own.
- DAY 3 CAIRO On a morning sightseeing tour, visit the fascinating Egyptian Museum, home of King Tutankhamun’s priceless treasures. Then on to see the Pyramids at Giza, including one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramid of Cheops, and their inscrutable guardian, the Sphinx. (B)
- DAY 4 ASWAN / NILE CRUISE This morning, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Aswan. Here, visit the High Dam and travel by motorboat to the Temple of Isis, on the island of Philae. Isis was one of the most important goddesses in ancient Egypt. Board your Nile cruise ship. This afternoon, sail in a traditional felucca around Aswan’s Botanical Gardens and view the Aga Khan Mausoleum. (B,L,D)
- DAY 5 NILE CRUISE: KOM OMBO / EDFU This morning is at leisure. You might want to join the optional excursion by air to the temple of Abu Simbel. This colossal temple was built by Ramses the Great. In the afternoon, sail to Kom Ombo to visit the bluff top temple dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile-headed god, and Haoreris, the falcon headed god. Then continue to Edfu. (B,L,D)
- DAY 6 NILE CRUISE: EDFU / LUXOR Travel through the streets of Edfu to the sandstone Temple of Horus, the falcon god.Afterward, cruise on to Luxor, for a visit to the ancient Temple. (B,L,D)
- DAY 7NILE CRUISE: LUXOR / CAIRO Disembark this morning. Your first stop is the extraordinary Valley of the Kings, then see the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon on the West Bank and the impressive Karnak Temple on the East Bank. After marveling at these ancient structures, fly back to Cairo. (B)
- DAY 8 CAIRO / ALEXANDRIA Drive to Alexandria, making a stop at the Coptic Monasteries at Wadi El Natrun (when open). This evening, enjoy dinner in a local restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. (B,D)
- DAY 9 ALEXANDRIA / CAIRO Alexandria was the capital of Greco Roman Egypt and a center of learning in ancient times. A guided tour of the “Pearl of the Mediterranean” shows off the white marble amphitheatre, Pompey’s towering red granite pillar, the Catacombs of Kom el Shuqafa, the National Museum and the magnificent Abu al Abbas al Mursi Mosque. Later, return to Cairo, where your evening is at leisure. (B)
- DAY 10 DEPART CAIRO Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)
