Abu Simbel – this set of two temples near the border of Egypt with Sudan was constructed for the pharaoh Ramesses II who reigned for 67 years during the 13th century BC. The Great Temple is dedicated to Ramesses II, and its facade is dominated by four enormous seated statues of the Pharaoh. The Small Temple is dedicated to Ramesses' favorite wife, Nefertari. At the entrance stand six 10-metre-high (33 feet) rock-cut statues - two of Ramesses and one of Nefertari on either side of the doorway.

Alexandria – this Mediterranean city, blessed with a mild, pleasant climate and white beaches, is the country's summer capital. Nightclubs, sidewalk cafes and restaurants lining the Corniche add to Alexandria's attractions. There are museums, a Roman theater, and catacombs to explore. Alexandria also serves as gateway for excursions to Cairo and the famous El Alamein battlefield. The city boasts a reputation of having the country's best food. Other sights include: Ras at-Tin Palace, with its surrounding gardens; Hussein Sobhy Museum of Fine Arts; Hotel Cecil, a War Museum, and a Commonwealth War Cemetery. Visitors will find plenty of interest in this "Pearl of the Mediterranean."

Amada – the site of Amada is just South of the city of Aswan, the southern gateway of Egypt. The oldest surviving structure on Lake Nasser (the largest man-made lake in the world), it has some of the finest carvings in any Nubian temple. The temple was begun by Egyptian king, Tuthmosis III in the 15th century BCE, and much of it has been well preserved.

Aswan – Egypt’s sunniest southern city has a distinctively African atmosphere, as well as a slow and relaxing pace of life. Strolling up and down the Corniche, one can watch sailboats glide by. Savor the flavor of locally caught fish while listening to Nubian music or wander in the bazaar and get lost in the sights and sounds of this mystical place. Visit the Aga Khan Mausoleum, the Monastery at Qubbat al-Hawa, the Unfinished Obelisk, the Tombs of the Nobles, Qubbat al-Hawa, the Monastery at Aswan, or the St. Simeon Monastery (Anba Hatre) – which is uninhabited and just outside of Aswan.

Cairo – with its ancient monuments of the Egyptian empire have fascinated visitors throughout the centuries, Cairo is perhaps Egypt’s most famous stop. The mystifying Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza, over four thousand years old, stand majestically on the outskirts of the city at the edge of the desert. Cairo's Museum of Antiquities holds one of the finest collections of artifacts in the world, including the astounding treasures of King Tutankhamen's tomb.

Giza – this famous town is located only a few kilometers south of Cairo. The ancient Egyptians called this place imentet, "The West" or kher neter, "the necropolis". Though the three Great Pyramids are the most famous and prominent monuments at Giza, the site has actually been a Necropolis almost since the beginning of Pharaonic Egypt.

Luxor – aside from visiting the pyramids near Cairo, Luxor and Al Karnak are places not to be missed when in search of ancient Egyptian monuments and artifacts. Luxor is on the southern part of ancient Thebes, Al Karnak on the north. Between the two, visitors can lose themselves for days in the hundreds of temples, chapels, tombs and gardens in the area. Too extensive to list all of them, a few of the tombs not to be missed are the tombs of Nefertari, Amenhotep II & III, several Ramesses and Tutankhamen.

Sharm-el-Sheikh – a starting point for an excursion into the desert, Sharm el-Sheikh is known for its beautiful underwater marine life, as is Na'ama Bay. Glass bottom boat cruises are also popular to see the colorful underwater world. The main shopping areas are at the resort area of Na'ama Bay, located five miles from the port. Egyptian cotton, Pharaonic souvenirs and gold cartouches are popular. There are plenty of eateries at Na'ama Bay, and the hotels offer a variety of restaurants with everything from seafood to international cuisine and fast food.

St. Catherine – the highest summit in Sinai, St. Catherin’s Mountain is best known for its monastery, a defining feature of the Holy Land. Set beneath the mountain where Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments, the monastery has been one of the world’s great centers of religious pilgrimage for over fifteen centuries. Within its imposing walls rests a citadel like no other, incredibly rich in important religious and historical structures. Among its treasures is a library of ancient manuscripts and icons second only to the Vatican's itself, and a 6th century church reputed to lie directly on the site of the Burning Bush.

Valley of the Kings – located in Upper Egypt, this valley contains many of the tombs of pharaohs from the New Kingdom, including Tutankhamun and Ramesses the Great. The Valley of the Kings actually has two components - the East Valley and the West Valley. It is the East Valley which most tourists visit and in which most of the tombs of the New Kingdom Pharaohs can be found. The West Valley has only one remote tomb open to the public, that of Ay who was Tutankhamun's successor.
