Mekong River
The Mekong River in southeastern Asia is the longest river in the region, running from its source in China, near the Tibetan border to the South China Sea, nearly 2,610 miles. It acts as a border between Myanmar and Laos and between Laos and Thailand. It also flows across Cambodia and southern Vietnam before empting into the sea. The basin of the river serves as an important agricultural area and irrigates the many rice paddies throughout its course. Over 60 million people depend on the river and its tributaries for food, water and transportation. Known as the Mother of Waters, it supports one of the world’s most diverse fisheries, second only to the Amazon River.
Nanjing

The site dates back over 25 centuries ago when it was site of several castles. The old city is encircled by a gigantic 21-mile wall, with 2/3 surviving, constructed during the Ming dynasty (1368 to 1644). Interesting sights include Pei-chi Ko (North Pole Pavilion) and Chi-ming Ssu (Cockcrow Temple) and in forested hills to the east are the Ming emperor Hung-wu's mausoleum, the blue-tile-roofed mausoleum of Sun Yat-sen, the Ling-ko Ssu (Temple of the Valley of Spirits) and the 200-ft high pagoda.

Yangtze River
The Yangtze is the longest Asian river, about 3,400 mi long. It rises in the Kunlun Mountains in Qinghai (Tsinghai) Province, and flows to its mouth in the East China Sea, about 14 miles north of Shanghai. Located in the Hubei Province, in the east mouth of the Three Gorges, Yichang is called 'the throat of Chuan'. The city's history reaches back 7,000 to 8,000 years. The main attraction in the area however is the Three Gorges Dam, which is said to be one of the largest construction projects in the history of man and the world's largest dam. Slated for completion in 2012, the dam will generate enough electricity to carry one-ninth of the country's total generated power. When the reservoir is filled, it will completely submerge two of the three famous gorges, along with the surrounding area. Needless to say, the environmental and cultural impacts of this dam are highly controversial.
