Meet our Staff
The Oceania-Class Marina represents an evolution of the line’s extremely popular Regatta-Class ships. Since the inception of Oceania Cruises, our ships have delivered an unparalleled onboard experience. So many of the indulgences are a direct result of our ships’ ideal mid-size, a tradition that Marina will proudly continue, but in an even more refined incarnation. She personifies the Oceania experience and then some.
While larger than her consorts Regatta, Insignia and Nautica, Marina remains comfortably mid-size, adroitly utilizing the additional space for even greater amenities. She rewards guests with our signature “finest cuisine at sea” in six restaurants, including two new gourmet venues — Jacques and Red Ginger. Her new La Reserve holds enlightening wine and food pairings. For special coffees and snacks, there is Baristas Coffee Bar. The new Bon Appétit Culinary Center offers hands-on cooking instruction under the guidance of master chefs. Similarly, artists-in-residence teach fine arts in Artist Loft, a new enrichment center. Intimate lounges abound. Accommodations in every category are incredibly spacious, especially with regard to the lavish bathrooms.
Yet remarkably, with so many additions, the onboard ambiance and experience remains comfortably familiar. We have retained everything guests adore about our ships and raised the bar ever higher.

Oceania Nautica Asian Wonders 15 days from Singapore to Hong Kong
Asia - 2/2012
Oceania Nautica- sailing Jan 23 -Feb 12, 2012 including pre and post hotel stays at Mandarin Oriental and the amazing Upper House in Hong Kong. Looking ahead to experience The Riviera or Marina- the last 2 to complete my Oceania Set.
Reviewing this cruise after sailing Oceania three past sailings-on three ships-in three separate parts of the globe- over 5 years gave me a perspective shared by few agents. The Nautica is one of those perfectly sized ships, what is known as mid size in cruise-speak. At 30,277 Tons and 342 cabins, I found each guest somewhat familiar by the end of a voyage. Six cabin categories include Inside, outside, veranda, veranda concierge, Penthouse, Vista Suites ( I was in one) and Owners Suite. With a dedicated Repeat Clientele, almost a cult - many passengers shared bragging rights as I overheard at dinners just how many times they cruised Oceania. What is the big attraction? Well, Oceania has carved out a niche that works - Country Club Casual -Foodie Food- and Port Intensive itineraries seems to be their winning formula. This translates to no tux, no ball gowns, minimal days at sea, the best food at sea, and long days at port. The lax dress code also translates to sloppy at times.
The itinerary began in Singapore, as we enjoyed a few nights at the Mandarin Oriental Club floor which was a wonderful choice as would be the Fairmont, Raffles, St Regis- any hotel except for the new Marina Bay Sands, which we originally booked and then changed to the Mandarin. The Marina Bay Sands is a theme park unto itself- it boasts the tallest hotel, an infinity pool on 57th floor and a massive casino within the complex. Visiting and having dinner on the top was just enough of Marina Bay Sands. As it is the new giant kid on the block, it will calm down and be more approachable in time - right now MBS is # 1 tourist attraction in Singapore.
Our Itinerary was intense. Singapore to Koh Samui, a lovely Thai Island where I visited the Orient Express Resorts and The Four Seasons for lunch. Both were spectacularly special. Rode a couple of elephants, visited the rocks, Buddhas, Temples. Beaches were picture postcard perfect.
Bangkok was the second port where I had traveled twice prior, and the only difference was more traffic and noise since last visit. Visited Buddhas, Temples and had lunch at The Four Seasons. In Central World Mall I had a foot massage raising the bar of future massage expectations.
Next stop Siihanoukville Cambodia where we departed for a 2 night Anghor Wat $1200 person excursion from Oceania Destination Services Dept.
In hindsight, flying from Bangkok would have been the smart choice and maybe on our own and as Cambodia and Viet Nam were very cheap, we could have stayed at a five star for a fraction of the packaged Oceania Excursion cost. As we took a nauseating 3 hour bus ride from Sihanoukville to Pnomm Penn only to board an airplane to fly to Siem Reap, it was too exhausing for my group. We had no Destinations service personnel on our bus, although there were two designated, they chose to ride together on the other bus. As far as value, I really expected more from DS, part of our group was almost left at the airport in Siem Reap and the DS people did nothing. I handled sorting it out myself. Incredibly, if a flight is listed for a 2:40 departure and boarding starts at 2:10, they depart when most of the people are aboard. At 2:20, they closed the gates and a few of my clients were paying their bill at the small cafe and could have missed the plane had I not been there to strongly intercede. The DS should have arranged Boxed lunches in advance instead of leaving the group to fend for themselves. The client was diabetic and needed to eat.
Anghor Wat was beautiful, however quite crowded and hot. I did explore the town on my own Tuk Tuk style, one of those motorbikes with a cart on the back, and the best hotel was Amansara, an Aman Resort, which I visited or Raffles. I stayed at the Meridien Hotel, the closest hotel to the Anghor Wat complex entrance and right next door to the Hospital, where a large sign said " Dengue Fever outbreak." oopsy I was careful not to walk to the right past the long line of ill patients with children. Visited the Killing Fields Museum, Temples and Buddhas. Following ports included Ho Chi Minh city where I crawled the Cu Chi Tunnels where the brutal Viet Cong hid out during the war and visited Temples, Buddhas - at this point a drive-by for these familiar sights.
Onward to China Beach, Hoi An, Canton, China, yes Temples, Buddhas, and now Foot Massage added to the mix.
Finally Hong Kong. Every meal was excellent aboard the Nautica, regardless of the restaurant, however Polo Grill is clearly the best. Entertainment aboard included a slew of no name performers- all were talented and entertaining. The historian oceanographer aboard appealled to the brainy bunch.
Destinations Services was weak. The Concierge was excellent. His assistance trumped over the Destination services, as he helped arrange my own excursions on several days - I was disappointed hearing the word no and can't from the DS Dept. After disembarking which was disorganized and unsettling to my client-guests accustomed to a more cilvilized Regent or Seabourn disembarcation, we were experiencing a cattle call- an awful last impression including lost luggage which had eventually been found.
We were in for a real sensory experience as we were whisked away by a private limo pick-up to the "over the top" Upper House on Hong Kong Island. I have experienced hundreds of hotels, the finest in the world and this was really different, really special and possibly the best hotel experience I and my group ever had. You have to stay stay there. Marcel, the GM and Edward my personal experience coordinator went above and beyond. It cannot be explained in words since it is a sensory experience. Worth every penny . Did not want to leave my room. Breakfast, lunch or dinner or cocktails in Cafe Grey Deluxe is a must for any visitor in Hong Kong. Make reservations far in advance. We spent a day in Macau, which I had visited just 2 years ago and the changes in 24 months were unfathomable. The Wynn, The second Wynn, The Venetian with over 500,000 sq meter casino- could that be? MGM, Lisboa, etc. The Setai Strip is a replica of the Las Vegas Strip except newer, cleaner, and requiring higher table minimums.
In conclusion, Oceania Nautica is a great ship for casual educated food and wine lovers wanting a port intensive cruise. I suggest Concierge Level or above to assure some personal Butler service and an overall better experience if the budget allows for it.
Pros: Fabulous for Foodies
