Holy Land/Egypt; Athens to Rome - 5/2010

This was a FAM/Seminar at Sea opportunity with our DSM, Jeanie McGinnis.

Had the opportunity to interface with key crew members including the

Captain and Hotel Manager throughout the cruise.

 

 

 

We had an excellent cruise aboard the Azamara Quest! This was her first cruise under the new "inclusive" policy, which includes poured wine from various regions of the world with lunch and dinner. The wines were, in general, very good and well-selected. Gratuities also included, along with specialty coffee's, bottled water, sodas and complimentary self-service laundry. All of the above were a big hit with the passengers on-board! The service aboard the ship was outstanding--bars, restaurants, and staterooms! On port days, either the Hotel Director and/or the Captain would be out on the dock to see the guests off on their excursions and wish them a wonderful day. Upon return, the same situation, with sincere questions about how the excursions were percieved by the guests. In, addition, there were always cold towels and champagne/mimosas for the returning guests!

The food in the alternative dining restaurants, Prime C and Aqualina was as good as I have had on any ship! Service was impeccable,as well.

The only criticism we had (as did several others in our group) was the food in the main dining room, Discoveries. We found the variety of offerings to be somewhat limited and the quality of the food to be average, at best. NOTE: I have since learned that Azamara has hired a new Executive Chef, so I believe they have taken to heart the criticism of many regarding the main dining room.

Staterooms are comfortable and of average size compared with a mass-market ship. The bathrooms are small. These are "R" Ships, so they will never be able to call themselves luxury products due to the size of the staterooms. They are certainly positioning themselves in the "Super-Premium" class to compete with Oceania once they get a handle on the food situation. Azamara's ports of call and many overnight stays are excellent and set them apart from most of the larger, mass market products in Europe.

Great Experience on Azamara

Eastern Med (Athens/Rome) - 8/2009

Azamara Quest was exemplary in many areas. We were especially impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the extent of entertainment and activities.

After 70 cruises, this was our first experience with Azamara and it was a very positive encounter. The staff was very impressive: accommodating and professional, yet also very friendly. We were amazed at the number and variety of activities and entertainments for a ship of 700 passengers. Windows Cafe (indoor/outdoor buffet) quickly became a favorite for many meals, and the steak house, Prime C, was outstanding.

The spa and fitness center were excellent facilities; we enjoyed the overall design and layout of ship. The shore excursions we took were very good value, although we explored some of the Eastern Med ports on our own.

Staterooms are certainly neither spacious nor elegantly appointed, but adequate.
