I am a mother of two young boys: Asher is 4 1/2 and Pierce is 2. Every mom that has young kids knows that a family vacation can be quite exhausting. The joke is often “I need a vacation after this family vacation.” We decided to try Club Med Cancun. Club Med Cancun is located on the Yucatan Peninsula bordering the Caribbean Sea. It was a 4 ½ hour non-stop flight from LAX. We opted for a redeye so that we all could sleep on the plane and it worked out pretty well actually. Club Med Cancun was one of the first hotels in Cancun and is located on one of the most stunning beaches in all of Cancun. It is only a 15 minute drive to the village from the airport – literally one of the easiest resorts to get to! We were greeted with big smiles and fresh ice cold waters and juices.

The grounds at Club Med Cancun are lush and finely manicured. We stayed in the Agua Marina Building. We had a club family room that was on the ground-floor and had a terrace that led us right up to the aqua colored ocean. The kids had their own room with two twin beds and a crib for baby. We had a large bathroom with a separate shower and big bath tub. My husband and I had our own room with a a king sized bed. This room was perfect for our family of four. This building is about a 15 minute walk from the center of the village – but they do have buggy rides to/from and that was quite exciting for my boys. The Agua Marina building was right next to a huge playground equipped with mini-golf. The boys loved to play there multiple times a day – in fact, every evening we took the kids there for at least 30 minutes to wear them out before going to dinner. Not only did it enable us to have a nice, relaxing dinner but coinsidentely right next door to it was a beach bar – all the parents were sipping refreshing cocktails while their children played on the playground – it doesn’t get much better than that!

The first morning at Club Med Cancun we enrolled the kids at camp. Asher was going to go to Mini Club (ages 4 and up) and Pierce was going to Petit Club (ages 2-3 years). When we arrived for drop off at Petit Club, there were girls dressed up like Disney characters and music was playing. They gave us a scheduled itinerary for the day for the kids that included 1 hour at the beach, 1 hour at the pool AND waterslide (once again another BIG highlight for Asher), the flying trapeze, fishing, 1 hour cooking class, etc. Asher did shed a few tears saying goodbye – but baby went running inside and was happy as a clam.

My husband and I were off to enjoy our morning adult-only breakfast at La Hacienda. After that we claimed our spot at the pool and did water aerobics. We then spent the rest of the afternoon at the beach. My husband has never been a huge beach person but he was the first to say that Cancun’s beach was just breathtaking. The water was perfect and the sand was like walking through silky powder. We picked up the kids around 3pm. Upon pick up, Asher came running up to me and said he loved his day at the Mini Club and couldn’t wait to go back the next day. At Petit Club, they said that Pierce was out for a walk – about five minutes later, he came back on a little red cart driven by a GO that had about 6 babies strapped in – all of the babies had big smiles on their faces. It was evident that both kids had a memorable day!

The resort is also full of all of the huge iguanas. They come out to bask in the sun. My boys loved counting them and seeing them all over.  We celebrated my birthday at Club Med Cancun. On our last night there we had dinner at La Estancia, which is the speciality steak restaurant. I was rather hesitant to not have dinner in the main dining room since our kids are so young and can be rather interesting at dinner time. However, our concierge at the Agua Marina building fit us in especially since it was my birthday and said we had to experience it. During our entire dinner, the staff at La Estancia was so accommodating to the children. They brought the kid’s food out right away and provided them with coloring pads and crayons. Meanwhile, I enjoyed my beef carpaccio and my husband savored his ribeye. After our dinner, we went and experienced the live music and then went to the Kid’s Club performance at the theatre.

Club Med Cancun has an endless array of sports and activities. They give you such an incredible experience – it makes you want to book your next trip even before you leave. If you have children and want to take a vacation, Club Med is the only way to go. Club Med gives you the best of both worlds – I was able to spend quality time with my husband and sons; and also have some much needed adult-time with my husband and some relaxation on the beach. Cancun is a beautiful village and every GO was kind and made our experience unforgettable. My four year old tells me daily that he wants to go back to Club Med Cancun. And I think we may just do that sooner rather than later!
