Tasmania Self Drive
Sample Itinerary - First Class

Itinerary

Day 1 ARRIVE LAUNCESTON / CRADLE MOUNTAIN. Upon arrival, drive to Cradle Mountain National Park (about 2-3 hrs). Stop at the Visitors Centre and maybe take one of the many bushwalks available.

Day 2 CRADLE MOUNTAIN NAT’L PARK. A full day to enjoy your surroundings and all that the Park has to offer.

Day 3 CRADLE MOUNTAIN / STRAHAN. At your leisure today, drive to Strahan (about 22 hrs). This fishing town is considered the gateway to the Gordon River and Myrtle Rainforest.

Day 4 STRAHAN. Relax, walk to Hogarth Waterfalls, head up to Water Tower Hill for spectacular scenic views – the choice is yours. The entire day is free.

Day 5 STRAHAN / HOBART. Depart Strahan and head to Hobart (about 42 hrs). Originally settled as a penal colony, it is now the capital of Tasmania. Hobart is set on the Derwent River at the foot of Mount Wellington.

Day 6 HOBART. A full day at leisure in Hobart. Perhaps visit historic Battery Point, Salamanca Place or tour Australia's oldest brewery, Cascade Brewery.

Day 7 DEPART HOBART. Your day is free until you transfer to the airport.

The Natural Wonders of Kangaroo Island

Day 1 ADELAIDE / KANGAROO ISLAND.
Early this morning, fly to amazing Kangaroo Island where you are met by your guide. Take a tour and look for wildlife, such as kangaroos, koalas and a variety of birds. At Seal Bay, you can walk among the sea lions. Lunch is a picnic in a bush setting. (L)

Day 2 KANGAROO ISLAND.
Travel to Flinders Chase National Park, a safe haven for wildlife. See the fur seal colony, explore the formations of Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks and visit the historic Cape du Couedic lighthouse. Enter Hanson Bay Sanctuary in search of koalas, then continue to Kelly Hill Conservation Park to see kangaroos as they graze on the open plains. (L)

Day 3 FRENCHMAN’S ROCK / DEPART KANGAROO ISLAND.
Tour the eastern part of the island to see Frenchman's Rock. Visit the Kangaroo Island Information Centre, then travel to Cape Willoughby for a picnic. Take a tour of the Cape Willoughby Lighthouse and stop at Pennington Bay. Climb Prospect Hill for views over the region before your transfer to the airport for your return to Adelaide. (L)

Outer Barrier Reef Diving Adventure

The best way to really experience the Great Barrier Reef is to stay there for a few days. This gives you much more time to enjoy the reef and plenty of time for diving and snorkeling. Plus, you have the opportunity to make night dives. Qualified divers have the thrill of diving on the Barrier Reef with up to 11 recreational dives, and non-divers can enjoy unlimited snorkeling. Outstanding diving combined with two nights accommodation make this liveaboard adventure unmatched for experience and value.

Itinerary

Day 1 CAIRNS / BARRIER REEF.
Early morning departure from Cairns. Four dives are scheduled for today, each offering clear turquoise waters, colorful corals, and dazzling marine life. After dinner on board, experience your first night dive and see the reef after dark. Be on the lookout for sleeping turtles, bright crustaceans, and the occasional reef shark. Overnight on board in comfortable quarters. (B,L,D)

Day 2 BARRIER REEF.
Start the day with an early morning dive. Enjoy seeing splendid gorgonian fans, giant clams, and an abundance of marine life. You have the opportunity to make two more dives this afternoon, with time between dives for relaxing and sunbathing. Tonight, another fascinating night dive. (B,L,D)

Day 3 BARRIER REEF / CAIRNS.
Your final day of diving continues with a further three dives at various dive sites. Head back to Cairns around midday, arriving in the late afternoon. (B,L)
