Well, things settled down for a moment. We had a house sitter who did little and have some plumbing problems she caused being repaired as I type.

You mention hosting, that is one of my comments. The second host we had was excellent, she called and introduced herself and seemed genuinely interested in helping. (We had done all of our Signature events by the third leg and did not really try to do anything with the third host, so I do not know if it was a he or she, and no reason to know how they did). The first leg was not so good, nothing serious, just a little too laid back for me. We wanted to know about the first two Signature excursions, what we were supposed to do, etc. I got a nonchalant just go to the pier - I asked would they have a sign with our name, or what - a sign, probably. The Peurto Madryn guide wanted a voucher and when we had none she went to ask a supervisor and returned saying we did not need a voucher. I had some comments on that tour and gave them to Lynn Segal, I believe her name was, she was very interested asked many questions and I felt like she was going to relay my information to help future guests. I really appreciated the approach she took.

Keren got bronchial pneumonia on the ship, the medical care was not very good. The doctor gave her cephalixine for a week and she still suffered, he suggested she go without medication for a while. She demanded something the next day, still running a temperature and feeling badly - THEN the doctor gave her an antibiotic designed for pneumonia, it cured it in 5 days. The frequent travelers all told us they bring their own meds on board.

The Shangri-La was excellent. The corner suite is furthest from the Opera but, the furniture is arranged so you sit and look right at it. The bed room and bath room look out the other way toward Darling Harbor, though there are buildings in the way. That view is also spectacular. We thought the room was well worthwhile for the days we were there.

We took two day trips with Wendt Tours a small company run by a woman and her husband, two vehicles they do all the tours. Nice people, our age, great service - I highly recommend them http://www.wendtontours.com.au

It meant a lot when the travel to the airport in Fort Lauderdale was messed up that you jumped in and helped. You had given us some contact info. One was a Regent rep who left her cell number on her business phone answering machine. She never called back - it was not her responsibility, but they should not give out numbers if they do not intend to answer the calls. You, however, helped us and the Zubers who became good friends.

The ship was very nice. I was surprised that the main restaurant was my favorite. Lots of variety and good service (in fact the service everywhere was nice).

The Signature tours were all very good. I mentioned that the one in Puerto Madryn had one small issue. It is a large area with three attractions which are a boring 2-3 hour drive from the dock (nothing to be done about that). Penguins are 3 hours one way and Sea Elephants and Seals 2 and 1/2 hours the other way (our guide said you cannot see all 3). However, a friend on the ship got off the ship and hired a guide on the pier. They went to see all 3 (there are apparently a flock? herd? bunch? group? of penguins near (another short drive) the sea elephants if you know where to look. The difference is you give up the lunch - which for us would have been fine (my suggestion was to offer people the choice).

57 days is a lot of cruising, we enjoyed it all, but it is still long - I don't know how people go on world cruises (we met many who did one world cruise a year and one who does two a year - and then spends the summer at their home in Las Vegas, NV {WOW}).

I am happy to answer any questions that you might have but other than that I would just say this was good, that was great, etc., etc.

Thank you for all of your help. I will definitely call you if we are in need of a travel agent in the future. We will see what happens, as an ex-GM employee a bankruptcy is liable to change my future, to some extent.

    Take Care,

  • Four Seasons Resort in Costa Rica

    Four Seasons, Costa Rica.

The Fours Seasons is set on the Papagayo Peninsula, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The first thing I noticed was how isolated it felt, as the nearest town was about 45 minutes away. It truly felt like an escape from city life.

What’s interesting about the property is that each room is designed with a treehouse feel – they’re oversized and well appointed (just as you would expect from The Four Seasons). The patio was my favorite. It was furnished with a couch, a coffee table, two chairs, and a reading table, all enclosed in a screen from which you could see and hear the ocean (I spent more time out there then in the actual room).

There are 2 pools - a ‘quiet’ one and the family pool, both with excellent service, including water, popsicles, and various other pamperings offered during the day at no charge.

There is also a wonderful (free) Spa with hot and cool whirlpools and two beaches with snorkeling, kayaking, and various other water sports.

The Four Seasons is in the dryer area of Costa Rica, so I wouldn’t say you've experienced ‘true’ Costa Rica if you haven’t seen the Arenal Volcano and the Rain Forest. You can get to these by taking an overnight trip.

In the forest, we saw monkeys, tapers, raccoons, and tons of birds.

All-in-all, Costa Rica was a blast and I’d hop on a flight back in a quick minute!

We all had a wonderful time on our Alaskan Cruise and Land Tour. I have already told others about All-Travel and about Chris, she helped us find just the right tour to meet our needs, including getting us just the right table by the window! Thanks. It was perfect.
